Ryan Goodrich, general manager of Ashley Valley Water & Sewer Improvement District, visited the Evans Family Media studios for an interview to discuss the water shortages and potential that water shares could run out sometime this summer. Goodrich shared that he ran reports and projections on the average use and average allotments of the last 8 years and in that scenario water is out in September. The projections using high use and low allotments show that available water could be out in late July. So what can the community do? We do not have a lot of control other than how we use that water, said Goodrich. Tips he recommends include sweeping driveways with brooms rather than using pressure washers, using air to blow off sand, looking for leaks in your home with toilet leaks being the most common and wasting water 24 hours a day, and looking for leaks in your sprinkler systems. Once out of water, there could be mandatory restrictions with potential fines and shut offs. The District does not want to go down that road. A public meeting is being held on June 4th at 6pm to present water projections, conservation efforts, and talk about the District creating a rate structure. Goodrich said there is a possibility that rates could increase and that’s what this meeting is about.
