It’s springtime and that means prescribed fires will be taking place in Ashley National Forest as weather allows. So far, the Forest has announced that operations will take place on the Flaming Gorge Ranger District to “help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.” Prescribed fires are planned for Dowd Mountain and Red Canyon off Forest Service Road 095, as well as Death Valley and Greendale Junction if resources and opportunities allow. “Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns,” shares the announcement. “Visitors and residents may experience smoke during the prescribed burns. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights when you encounter smoke on the road.”
