Ashley National Forest is planning prescribed fire operations this fall. The Forest Service announced on September 19th that the work will continue through November as weather conditions allow. Prescribed fires planned for the area include the D1 Ponderosa Pine Maintenance and Fuels Reduction Project. The planned units consist of locations adjacent to Highway 191 by Greendale, Glendale Willie Spring, and along the Highway 44 corridor near Moose Pond and Dowds Hole. These areas may close to the public for several days for public safety. Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns. Residents may experience smoke during the prescribed burns. Go to fire.airnow.gov for more detailed information about air quality. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights if you encounter smoke on the road. If weather conditions warrant, scheduled prescribed fire activities may be canceled. The public may call the Ashley Supervisors Office at 435-781-1181 or the Flaming Gorge Ranger District at 435-784-3445 with questions.
