Another Successful Year For Girls State

It was another successful year for Girls State in Utah with a great group of locals representing the Uintah Basin. In Uintah County, the American Legion sent 8 girls, 3 from Terra Academy and 5 from Uintah High School. There were Faith Hatch, Abilyn Montgomery, and Ema Porter from Terra Academy and Naomi Bernadino Santos, Breanna Helm, Kara Isom, Iris Mercado and Sasha Runolfson from Uintah High School. Many of the girls received scholarships that will be for 4 years of higher education. The scholarships ranged from $500 to $3500 and they all receive 3 credit hours of university credit that can be transferred to any university/college they choose to attend. “They are great girls and we are so proud of them,” shares Teako Monson, American Legion Auxiliary President of Unit 11 and District 9. “Hopefully we will see some of them performing other civic duties in the years to come!” Congratulations to these future leaders on a job well done.
