Ag DRIP Program Offered In Uintah Basin

The drought and water conservation efforts are hard on agriculture producers who depend on water to sustain their operations and a USU initiative is working to help producers while researching the way forward for the Colorado River Basin. The Ag Water Demonstration, Research, and Implementation Program(known as Ag-DRIP for short) is an initiative launched by Utah State University, aimed at enhancing agricultural resilience to drought and conserving water in the Colorado River Basin. It is funded by a grant from the Central Utah Water Conservancy District and the Colorado River Authority of Utah. Those that choose to participate agree to a 5-year participation period and are provided with soil moisture sensors, irrigation evaluation and support, funding for crop seed, and compensation for annual reporting. The point is not to tell farmers to use less water but it is to help farmers make their operations more efficient. To learn more, visit extension.usu.edu/ag-drip.
