Additional Mosquitoes Test Positive of West Nile Virus in Basin

There have been more mosquitoes test positive for West Nile Virus in the area. As of Wednesday, there was a total of 13 positive tests in Uintah County and 9 positive tests on Ute Tribal land. So far the positive tests include 1 in Naples, 5 in Ouray, 3 in Pelican Lake, 2 in Jensen, 1 in Lapoint, 1 in Ballard, 3 in Myton, 3 in Randlett, and 3 in Ft. Duchesne. There continues to be no report of West Nile in Duchesne or Daggett County. West Nile Virus was discovered in the U.S. in 1999 and in Utah in 2003. During West Nile Virus season, residents are asked to take precautions seriously if outside between dusk and dawn. Wear long sleeves and pants. Use a repellent with 20 to 30 percent DEET. Remove standing water and maintain screens to keep mosquitoes at bay.
