An accurate mapping of the Maeser Highway Fire reduced the size estimate to 885 acres, according to the latest update from Utah Fire Information. A Friday night estimate by aircraft mapped the fire at 2500 acres but as the smoke cleared Saturday a more accurate mapping of the fire was possible. Even with strong winds and high temperatures, firefighters have been successful in suppressing additional growth to the blaze. As of Saturday night, the fire is 30 percent contained and crews continue to work to strengthen existing containment lines and extinguish hot spots. Fire crews remain focused on keeping the fire west of residential communities in the area. According to fire PIO Don Jaques, it has been determined that the fire was human caused but there has not been a determination of exactly how. The public is being urged to use extreme caution  with machinery, fire, or anything else that can cause a wildfire. “We had a number of other fire starts in the Basin this weekend,” says Jaques. “We are really urging residents to exercise extreme caution because of red flag conditions. We want to prevent any other fires from starting.”
