A tradition at the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office is a special reminder that our safety comes at a cost and not everyone will be home for Christmas. Sheriff Anthony Mazzola has personally invited the public to come to the Sheriff’s Office to view a tree decorated in memory of fallen officers nationwide. Sheriff Mazzola shares that the tree includes 439 fallen officers from this year alone. “If you’d like to,” he invites, “come by and take a look and give tribute to the officers that ultimately gave their life for our freedoms here in this country.” Undersheriff Jeremy Muxlow explains that this is the 2nd year they have decorated a special tree to remember fallen officers. “It is an honor and privilege for us to recognize the officers, men and women, that have given the ultimate sacrifice,” shares Undersheriff Muxlow. “This will be the first year for many LEO families where they don’t have dad or mom and it’s the least we can do to recognize them on a national level.”
