October 23rd is the first day of the 2021 rifle deer hunt which will end on Saturday, October 31st. As hunters get their deer, wildlife officials ask that they take a moment to stop at the CWD check stations for a quick test. DWR Conservation Outreach Manager Tonya Kieffer-Selby shares that as of September 29th, 124 mule deer and 3 elk have tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease and with the rifle deer hunt underway, officials will be collecting deer tissue samples at check stations across the state. This weekend those check stations in northeastern Utah will be located at the junction of Highway 40 and Co-op Creek Road near Strawberry Reservoir, on Highway 191 at the Steinaker Reservoir rest stop, and west of Manila on SR 43.
