Vernal is now home to an elite amateur hockey team with its premier season kicking off this month. The Vernal Oilers will participate in the Western States Hockey League playing teams in the western United States and Canada. As of Wednesday, the Oilers roster included 13 players coming from as far as Moscow, Russia and Fairbanks, Alaska to as close as Colorado and Vernal. Locals will recognize the names of Jayce Yadon, Tanner Flitton, Dawson Silcox, and Korven Vanleuven. The Oilers kick off their season in a three game series against the Utah Altitude October 31st through November 2nd in Salt Lake City.
