The process of redistricting is underway in Utah and it’s possible this process could harm representation in rural Utah. After gathering public input, the Utah Independent Redistricting Commission will create district maps for the Utah Legislature to consider. The Commission shares, “As the redistricting process only occurs once every 10 years, it is crucial for Utahns to participate in the process – redistricting impacts everything from congressional districts and school boards to community growth.” The Commission is hosting a public meeting at Roosevelt City Hall on September 24th from 6 to 8pm. Those planning to participate are encouraged to explore the 2020 census data, submit formal comments and ideas on the suggested draft maps, and even create their own maps.
