DWR Fisheries Biologist Ryan Mosley had some excellent help last week on Flaming Gorge Reservoir while performing night trawls. Thanks to a partnership between the Forest Service and Utah State University, Utah Conservation Corps members, like Hunter Gahley, are able to work in Forest Service positions during the busy summer season. Gahley has been working this summer as a recreation technician on Flaming Gorge and was recommended as a teammate to Mosley. On August 10th, the pair headed out for the night trawl, that night focused specifically on high density areas of Kokanee Salmon. “I always feel really good teaching these young kids that are interested in this field about the what, where, how and why of what we do,” Mosely said. “Ultimately they’re the ones that will replace us in the future and giving them the experience and knowledge early enough will hopefully invigorate them and help them down whatever career path they might choose.” This valuable experience was right up Gahley’s alley as he continues his pursuit of a degree in Fisheries Biology.
