There have been many exciting events this month in the Uintah Basin and a new one this year is hoping to become an annual tradition. In a review of the success of the Independence Day Block Party, the Vernal Chamber shared that over 2,500 people gathered on July 2nd in downtown Vernal to celebrate and unite with an evening of great entertainment. The idea for the event came from Uintah County Commissioner Brad Horrocks who envisioned a giant community celebration of hometown values with Hank Williams, Jr. performing live on Main Street in downtown Vernal. “Unfortunately, it was cost prohibitive so Lesha Coltharp and Steve Evans began working on the project,” shares the Chamber report. “Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion was able to obtain a permit to close two major state highways at the intersection of Main and Vernal Avenue and the Independence Day Block Party with Little Texas was born.” The stage was set up on the south side of the Main and Vernal Avenue intersection and the blocked off streets were a sea of spectators sitting in their camp chairs from home. After such an amazing evening it is hoped to become an annual event.
