Crews continue work on the Oil Springs Fire south of Rangely in Rio Blanco County. As of the June 30th report, County Roads 113, 116 and BLM road 1045 are still closed and all are asked to use caution when driving along Highway 139. Firefighter personnel and vehicles are actively using the highway to access the fire area. “Firefighters made progress along the southern portion of the fire resulting in containment from West Creek to Oil Springs Mountain. Other crews achieved containment from county road 116 to Texas Mountain. Helicopters assisted personnel on the ground by dropping water on areas of heat.” Thanks to showers and cooler temperatures further fire activity is not expected. There are 349 fire personnel assigned to the Oil Springs Fire. It is considered 58 percent contained and is 12,613 acres. The lightning-caused fire started on June 18th.
