There have been closures and evacuations ordered due to the Oil Springs Fire in Rio Blanco County. According to the Sunday report, the Oil Springs Fire started on Friday, 20 miles south of Rangely and it was caused by lightning. On Sunday evening the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office ordered Highway 139 closed at Highway 64 to I-70. Shortly after the highway closure, an evacuation order was put in effect from the Garfield County line to Rio Blanco County Road 116 on the west side of Highway 139 and Rio Blanco County Roads 27, 28, and 120 on the east side of the road. The evacuation point is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints church building in Rangely at 125 Eagle Crest. It is important to note that due to road closures travelers can only drive north on Highway 139. The evacuation order is stated to be in effect until at least 8pm on Monday night, June 21st.
