Ready for a challenge local anglers? The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and Utah State Parks are hosting ice fishing tournaments from January to March. Among the most popular is the Burbot Bash on Flaming Gorge Reservoir being held January 29th through the 31st. The annual tournament aims to help control the burbot population and plenty of big cash prizes are given out. Visit www.burbotbash.com to get in on the action. The Starvation Ice Derby at Starvation Reservoir will be February 6th. Participants will be targeting trout and walleye for the contest and prizes will be awarded based on fish length. Registration will be capped at 200 anglers so get signed up right away. Visit stateparks.utah.gov and look up Fred Hayes State Park at Starvation for more information. Also on the state parks website is other ice fishing tournaments that will be happening around the state including at East Canyon, Fish Lake, Millsite State Park, and Bear Lake. A valid Utah fishing license is required for anyone over 12 years old to fish in any of the events and anyone participating must be familiar with ice safety recommendations on the Utah State Parks website.
