Uintah County issued a press release on Wednesday providing further information on how things will proceed now that three of the Special Service Districts have been combined into one new Special Service District. On August 24th, local leaders met to discuss the future of the Special Service Districts as mineral lease funds have continued to decline. On September 14th, those same local leaders met for a final meeting where the Uintah County Commission would make a decision on the future of the Districts. “The Uintah County Commission took all of the presented recommendations into consideration before making their decision,” shares Wednesday’s press release. “It was determined that in accordance with Utah State Code 17d that the Transportation, Recreation, and Impact Mitigation Special Service Districts will now be combined into one special service district. The other three special service districts: Fire, Health, and Animal Control will remain separate and operate on a set budget. The Transportation, Recreation, and Impact Mitigation Districts will continue to operate as status quo until the three special service districts can be merged. Rules and bylaws for the new special service district will need to be created, a new board will need to be selected, legislation will need to be submitted to the Lieutenant Governor outlining the new district, and a new executive director will need to be hired before the new special service district can operate.”
