A well known fundraising event, held in local venues throughout the world for the American Cancer Society, is approaching. What started as a surgeon, Dr. Gordon Klatt, walking around a track for 24 hours has turned into a society that is 2nd only to the government for funding cancer research. The Uintah Basin’s Relay for Life won’t be happening until June, but the community is being asked to make plans to help right now. The organizers have noticed a decline in support and while they are eternally grateful to those that give and recognize that it is a trend with current economy there can be additional helps to the community with higher support. Crissy Knibbe, Vernal’s marketing and sponsorship chair, says “there is many benefits to our community for having a certain amount of teams, a certain amount of money raised.” Grants are given to aid in establishing programs, for example the Hope Lodge and one that we had in the Basin until recently, Road to Recovery. There are 12 teams currently signed up while at its peak there were close to 50. Even if you are not planning to host a team come support the cause with the many kid friendly activities, raffles (
