DWR: Fewer but Bigger Fish to Be Stocked this Year

The Division of Wildlife Resources has announced that this year they will be stocking fewer fish in Utah waters but that the fish will be bigger. Stocking numbers have been consistent since 2014 but new research has convinced the DWR to focus on quality over quantity, producing higher quality fish with better survival rates. Sportfish coordinator Randy Oplinger says stocking numbers will be reduced by about 3 percent this year, another 6 percent next year, and another 7.8 percent in 2021. After that the total number of fish stocked will remain the same. Biologists estimate that fish stocked in reduced quantities will be about 2 inches longer than in past years.
