Fire crews in Uintah County quickly put out a fire that started
Tuesday in the afternoon
. According to Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond, crews from Vernal, Lapoint, and Jensen were all paged to a disposal pit fire on Highway 40 mile marker 128
at about 1:15pm
. The fire started from welding that was taking place near the disposal pit, explains Raymond. Crude oil in the pit started on fire and spread over an area of approximately 30 by 50 feet. Crews were able to extinguish it with foam. They also cooled adjacent crude tanks and propane tanks. No injuries were reported and the loss is estimated at $50,000 dollars. Crews had the fire out in 15 minutes after arrival.
