The Uintah Basin Technical College has and is on the forefront of providing opportunities for the future for the residents of the Basin. They continue to provide the finest education, while adding new vocations. Their pharm tech program is officially a candidate for initial accreditation through the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists (ACHP)/Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). While the pre-accreditation review saw the program receive high marks, a recommendation was made that the program obtain pharmaceutical hoods and other equipment for a more realistic, hands-on training. It was then that Taryn Howcraft, UB Tech Pharmacy Tech instructor, reached out to Lynette Trujillo, Ashley Regional Medical Center’s head pharmacy technician, to find a solution. It so happened that the hospital’s pharmacy had just recently been remodeled and had received new equipment. The plan to sell the equipment was replaced with the decision to donate it to UBTech, which would save the college tens of thousands of dollars. “We appreciate your desire and willingness to help our students now and in the future,” UBTech President Aaron Weight told ARMC pharmacy department officials at a recent luncheon in their honor. “The accreditation body said we needed this (equipment) and then we had it. Thank you for your visionary leadership. It will bless the lives of our pharmacy tech students and thousands who will count on them for their pharmacy needs.”
