Moon Lake Electric Warns of Phone Scams

Moon Lake Electric Association is the latest to warn community members of ongoing phone scams. There has been “an increase in ‘robo-calls’ where scammers leave urgent callback requests through the phone telling Moon Lake members to call back to settle their power bill. These fake calls generally claim to be the last warning before your power will be shut off. Once the member calls back, the scammers may threaten to turn the power off of the member if they don’t agree to pay. It used to be that most of these bogus calls would come from a live person. Scammers are evolving and using more and more automated calls in an effort to reach the largest number of victims possible…Members should remain alert for this fall surge of phone scams, and watch for clear warning signs as these scammers change tactics.” Phone scams like this one are being used by a massive variety of scammers claiming to be utility providers among other businesses and debt collectors. DO NOT give out personal information and report the scam to your local police department. For Moon Lake Electric’s full warning, visit their Facebook page.
