Uinta-Wasatch-Cache and Ashley National Forests Seek Comment on Draft EIS

by | Jun 21, 2019 | News | 0 comments

Uinta-Wasatch-Cache and Ashley National Forests announced this week that they are seeking public comment on a draft Environmental Impact Statement that analyzes sheep grazing allotments within the High Uintas Wilderness to determine if they should continue grazing or cease. The proposal is to authorize grazing on 5 allotments in each forest and to continue using the sheep driveway to allow domestic sheep on the 10 allotments when moving from their winter range. “One issue raised during the initial review of the project was the presence of bighorn sheep found in the project area,” shares the announcement. “In August 2008, bighorn sheep were listed as a Regional Forester’s Sensitive Species.  A second issue raised was the potential social-economic impact to permittees and the communities where they live and ranch. Both of these issues are addressed in the draft environmental impact statement.” Public comment is welcomed and encouraged. For information on how to submit comments, call
