West Nile Virus has spread locally with more confirmed mosquito pools in Uintah County. According to TriCounty Health representative Jeramie Tubbs, mosquito abatement has reported two pools in the Pelican Lake area and two pools in Jensen, both north and south. There are no confirmation of human or equine cases, shares Tubbs, and pools in Salt Lake and Millard have also been confirmed with West Nile Virus this week. Spraying to kill adult insects will occur in these areas but community members are urged to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites. Wear long pants and sleeves, use insect repellents and remove standing water on properties. A West Nile Virus vaccine is available for horses and officials recommend that the animals be vaccinated.
