Proposed Hunting Changes

by | Jul 20, 2016 | News | 0 comments

The cougar and bobcat populations in Utah are healthy and as a result DWR biologists are proposing several minor changes to the cougar hunting season. According to the Division of Wildlife Resources, biologists are concerned by the number of sheep and cattle that cougars killed last season. There were 60 incidents of cougars attacking livestock which is almost double the incidents from the year before. As a result, biologists are recommending that additional cougars be taken during the 2016 – 2017 hunting season. Hunters took a total of 371 cougars during the 2015 – 2016 season. This and other proposed recommendations will be discussed at Regional Advisory Council meetings in August. Locally, that meeting will be held on

August 4th

at the DWR Northeastern Region Office at

. All with input on the proposed changes are welcome to attend.
