Steinaker Service Canal Trail Project Timeline

by | Jul 30, 2026 | News | 0 comments

The Steinaker Service Canal project is now underway and the projected timeline has been shared. From now and into September, crews will be clearing vegetation and preparing the canal corridor to make way for construction. In early fall, asphalt paving is scheduled for the 10 to 12 foot multi-use path. A pedestrian bridge crossing is planned for installation in the winter or spring of 2027 and once that is complete, a ribbon cutting will be held. The UDOT project overview states, “This trail is being built to enhance community connectivity, increase safe trail access, and support long-term public health and mobility goals. The trail transforms an underutilized canal corridor into a scenic, functional pathway for walking, biking, and other non-motorized uses. As the first trail of its kind in this part of Vernal, it serves as a key link in the Vernal and Uintah County Trails Master Plan.”
