The high temperatures made the McCoy Flats Death Race held over the weekend in Uintah County even more appropriately named and yet a new unbelievable record was set. If you haven’t heard of this race before, prepare to be dumbfounded. The participants run a 4.1 mile trail route every hour until only one person is left. The Uintah Recreation sponsored race started on Saturday at 6am and didn’t end until Sunday afternoon! The previous record for the Death Race was last year’s winner Joni Jones who ran 23 Rounds which was 94.3 miles run over 23 hours. This year, there were 6 runners left by Round 23 but the battle continued until just one runner remained. Congratulations to Cort Dixon on completing 31 Rounds for 129.18 miles and setting a new unbelievable record for the McCoy Flats Death Race.
