Local law enforcement has issued another scam alert. The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office shares that there continues to be reports of individuals posing as Duchesne County deputies and contacting residents by phone. “The caller claims there is an active warrant for the person’s arrest and demands immediate payment to avoid being taken into custody. THIS IS A SCAM. The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call you to demand payment for a warrant, missed jury duty, fines, or any other legal matter. We do not accept payment over the phone, through gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or payment apps. If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately, do not provide personal or financial information, do not send money, and report the incident to local law enforcement.” It’s important to note that scammers often use caller ID spoofing to make it appear as though they are calling from a legitimate government or law enforcement number. Even if the number looks official, do not trust the caller. If you have been targeted by this scam, contact your local law enforcement agency.
