Vernal City Gives Update On Proposed Water Rates

Vernal City has provided an update as changes to water rates are being explored. On April 29th, public comment was welcomed during a special city council meeting. No decisions were made at that time but the public was assured that the recorded feedback would be carefully reviewed by the Public Works Committee as they worked toward a solution. On Friday, Vernal City provided an update, sharing that in response to public feedback, the updated proposal includes a two-year rollout. Tiers 1 – 4 would be implemented in 2026, with Tiers 5 – 7 adjusted in 2027. “The updated structure also removes separate residential, commercial, and transient categories. Instead, everyone would follow the same rate structure with a meter-based base charge and volume rates based on actual water use. No water would be included in the base rate…While the proposed rates have been revised, Vernal City is still proposing an increase to help support needed investment in water infrastructure and encourage responsible water conservation.” Link to the utility bill calculator included in the update on the Vernal City Facebook page.
