Police Issue Safety Reminder Following Confusion Over Pedestrian Lights

Pedestrian lights have become part of the flow on Highway 40 in Roosevelt and Vernal but some drivers are still getting used to their presence. Roosevelt City Police Department shared a safety reminder on Wednesday stating that there has been confusion over the pedestrian lights at 200 East and 100 South in Roosevelt. “When activated by a pedestrian, the lights flash yellow, letting drivers know to let pedestrians cross,” shares Roosevelt PD. “The lights DO NOT ever turn red. It appears some… are trying to get through the yellow before it turns red.” Part of the confusion may stem from the fact that the pedestrian light near Union High School is a different style that DOES go to red. Regardless, it’s important to pay attention. At the pedestrian light at 200 East and 100 South, slow down and yield to pedestrians if the light is yellow. “Especially with school days creeping up on us,” shares Roosevelt PD. “There will be students using this crossing area. Pass the word along and help keep kids and adults safe.”
