Citizens packed the Duchesne County Centennial Event Center Conference Room in Duchesne City on Monday for the Duchesne County Commission Public Hearing on appeals to permits related to the proposed Nine Mile Data Center. The appeal by Moreen Henderson was considered first. Henderson explained that she is a property owner whose property is located about 6 miles east of the proposed data center location. Moreen outlined community concerns and asked why details of size and potential effects have not been provided to the public. “We need to know what we are getting ourselves into,” said Moreen, also questioning why the public was not allowed to make comments during the meeting. Commissioners stated their job is to determine whether her appeal has standing and that by her own admission she doesn’t know if it does or not. The Commissioners denied the appeal. Many of the public vocalized their opposition and were asked to maintain meeting decorum. Diana Meacham Davies presented her appeals next, questioning if the project aligns with the County’s General Plan and state law, outlining examples of what she said were violations. Members of the audience were vocal in supporting Davies. At her conclusion, Commissioner Tracy Killian said it was a nice report but that he did not agree. The public vocally opposed him from the audience. He made a motion to deny Davies’ appeals. The motion passed.
