As always, there are more scams circulating in the region to watch for. Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office has brought attention to the fraudulent “court enforcement” notices being sent by text message. The notices appear official at first glimpse with official looking seals, court-style language, urgent payment demands, and a QR code. The fake notice claims to involve traffic violations, toll evasion, parking violations, license suspension, collections, and other court action. These are scare tactics designed to pressure people into scanning a QR code or making a payment. Do not scan suspicious QR codes. Do not click links or call numbers from unsolicited messages. Do not pay based on a text or unofficial notice. Verify court matters directly through official court contacts and report suspicious messages to your local law enforcement.
