With a fantastic deer hunt anticipated, wildlife offices are reminding hunters to put safety as the top priority. Statistically, Utah is considered a safe place for hunting, shares DWR Conservation Outreach Officer Bryan Clyde, but there is always room for improvement. The majority of accidents happen in the cab of vehicles due to live rounds being left in rifles, shares Clyde, because discharges happen all the time. Clyde also emphasizes the importance of being aware of surroundings during the hunt. “Watch for buildings, other vehicles, roadways and look beyond the animal themselves.” Officers also ask that hunters stop at the check stations so biologists can take a sample of harvested deer in order to monitor the health of the herd.
