Juvenile Taken Into Custody Following Airsoft Gun Incident

A juvenile was taken into custody on Monday due to an incident with an airsoft gun. The Roosevelt City Police Department reports that on March 30th at approximately 12:15pm, Roosevelt PD officers responded to a report of a juvenile male allegedly displaying what was believed to be a firearm during an incident that took place outside of Union High Campus. Officers quickly responded, conducted an investigation, and identified the individuals involved. As a result of the investigation, a juvenile male was taken into custody. During the investigation, it was determined that the item involved was an airsoft gun. While not a firearm, airsoft guns can closely resemble real weapons and can cause alarm and concern to the public. Incidents of this nature are taken seriously and are investigated accordingly. Roosevelt PD further emphasized that at no time did this incident occur on school property, nor is there any indication that the school facilities were directly threatened. Based on the information currently available, there is no ongoing threat to any school. This incident appears to be isolated. The case will be handled in accordance with juvenile justice procedures. Due to the age of the individual involved, no further identifying information will be released. The Roosevelt City Police Department takes all reports involving weapons seriously. Any perceived threats to public or school safety will be addressed promptly and decisively.
