First responders are credited with saving lives during the Scott’s Bottom/FMC Park Fire that was reported in a nature preserve on Saturday before 5pm in Wyoming’s Green River. The community was devastated and frustrated after not being allowed into the area where many kept their horses but thankfully, what could have been a massive loss of life, ended in just one loss. Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office shared that “first responders from the Green River Police Department, Green River Fire Department, Sweetwater County Fire District #1, and Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office risked their own lives to turn out as many horses as possible before conditions forced them to withdraw. There is only one road in and out of the area. Allowing people into the area during a fast-moving fire with red flag winds would have put more lives at risk and could have blocked the only access route.” This decision to close the area to only first responders was made for public and responder safety. The full circumstances of the fire remain under investigation.
