Vernal City Public Works has shared that Vernal City will soon begin construction on planned water and sewer infrastructure upgrades along 100 North. These improvements are part of an ongoing effort to replace aging utilities, improve reliability, and support continued growth. During pre-construction evaluations, the City identified that some homes in this area may still be connected to sewer laterals made from a product known as Orangeburg pipe. Over time, these pipes can deteriorate and may be more prone to collapse or root intrusion. Homeowners are responsible for maintaining the private sewer lateral that connects their home to the City sewer main in the street. Homeowners may wish to evaluate the condition of their sewer lateral before or during construction. After the project is completed and new asphalt is installed, a five-year moratorium will be placed on cutting into the roadway. Addressing potential sewer lateral issues during construction may help homeowners avoid additional roadway restoration costs later. Vernal City will also offer financing options for eligible sewer lateral repair or replacement costs. A Public Meeting focused on the project is happening tomorrow, March 17th, at 5pm in the Vernal City Hall Community Room. For more information, please visit www.vernal.gov.
