Meeting Today On UDOT Proposal For Highway 40 And 1500 West Intersection

A public hearing is scheduled for today concerning the UDOT proposed project to construct a section of raised concrete curb in the median along Highway 40 at the intersection of 1500 West in Vernal. “If constructed, the raised curb would restrict left turns from 1500 West onto north or southbound US-40,” shares the announcement. UDOT states that the “goal is to reduce traffic conflict points, promote driver awareness, and improve safety at this intersection. The proposed project may also include the replacement of pedestrian ramps and addition of crosswalks on the north and south legs of the intersection to improve pedestrian access and safety.” The reason a light is not being proposed at this intersection is that “UDOT understands that long-term City planning includes installing a signal at the intersection of Aggie Boulevard and US-40, just west of this proposed median.” Public comment is being welcomed tonight at the UDOT Public Hearing in the Vernal City Hall Community Room from 5:30 to 7:00pm. A draft of the Environmental Study will be available at the hearing. Comments can also be submitted by email to US40and1500Wmedian@utah.gov through March 30th.
