Having a built-in GPS in a piece of oil field equipment helped investigators arrest the alleged thief in Duchesne County this month. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, the theft occurred on a Four Point oilfield location close to Dart Lane in January. A Dewalt impact driver and stationary gas monitor valued at approximately $6000 dollars was stolen from a building along with other tools. The GPS locator on the gas monitor showed the item arriving at a home on Cobblehollow Drive. Investigation revealed that the owner of the home was Jason McAllister. No one answered the door when investigators tried to make contact with McAllister at his home but when he was reached by phone he claimed to have been out of town during the time of the theft. On March 2nd, a search warrant of the property was obtained to examine, measure, and photograph tire tread patterns of the vehicles there to compare to the tread patterns obtained near the scene of the crime. Upon examining the tire treads, one of the patterns on the Explorer was a similar match to the treads found near the scene of the crime. 47-year-old Jason Aron McAllister was arrested for burglary and theft as well as on an active warrant for his arrest for theft out of Uintah County. Court records show that McAllister has a criminal history of theft.
