A Valentine’s Day pursuit in Roosevelt started when a vehicle was recorded traveling at twice the speed limit. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, the officer attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle did not stop and as the vehicle traveled, a handgun was seen being thrown out the passenger side window. At approximately 4000 South 5500 East, the vehicle crashed through a fence and went into a field. 34-year-old Damon Jesse Garfield was placed under arrest and a handgun magazine was found in his jacket pocket. Garfield’s speech was slurred and bottles of Hennessy were found on the ground next to the vehicle and in the back seat. Garfield said the passenger had thrown the gun out the window. Damon Jesse Garfield is charged with 2nd Degree Felony Prohibited Dangerous Weapon Conduct of a Category 1 Person, Failure to Stop at Command of Police, Property Destruction, Reckless Driving, and DUI.
