When a woman wandered away from the family vehicle that was stopped near Vernal last month, a special officer was brought in who made quick work of finding her. K-9 Hawk with the Department of Natural Resources was the team member ready for the job. Hawk led the search party under fences and along the remote area before finding the woman in a ravine area. The body camera video from Hawk’s handler has been shared by the DNR as a great example of the important work these K-9 team members perform. The woman was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time and was found physically unharmed. Further medical and professional help was made available to her after the rescue. As shown in this case, K-9 Hawk and others like him are excellent trackers which proves very beneficial in search-and-rescue situations.
