Dry conditions and low snowpack put a target on Flaming Gorge for states and communities downstream. During a meeting last week of the Wyoming Colorado River Advisory Committee, the likelihood of Flaming Gorge being turned to this spring for extra releases to keep water levels at Lake Powell operational was discussed. Chris Brown said during the meeting, “So if we do need to do a DROA release this year, likely most of it — if not all of it — will come from Flaming Gorge. By April, we will have a much better handle on what the water supply conditions are for the year. Then, if we do have a release, it will [begin] in May.”
