The Heart of the Basin Warming Center in Vernal is keeping those who would be sleeping in the cold safe and warm one night at a time but more volunteers are needed to continue this important effort. “Heart of the Basin is currently struggling to fill overnight and morning volunteer shifts, and without coverage, the center is at risk of having to close, even temporarily,” shares their Monday announcement. “For safety reasons, we cannot operate without at least two volunteers per shift. Recent volunteer schedule changes have left us scrambling, and we need our community to help.” The ‘Heart of the Basin’ mission is “to provide a safe and welcoming space for individuals and families experiencing hardship in the Uintah Basin. We are committed to offering shelter, resources, and compassionate support to help individuals and families find stability.” Those able to volunteer for evening, overnight, or morning shifts are asked to visit ‘Heart of the Basin’ on Facebook or Instagram to learn more and sign up to volunteer. The Heart of the Basin Warming Center is located at 65 East 100 North in Vernal.
