Scammers never rest and Vernal City is sounding the alarm on an increase in scam emails being sent to local business owners. “Fraudulent invoice emails deceptively designed to appear as official communications from the Vernal City Community Development Department are being sent requesting payments. Furthermore, these invoices are using City logos to appear more legitimate,” shares the warning message from Vernal City. “While the fake invoice emails clearly display several red flags and misspellings, the body of these documents can be alarmingly convincing, as they often incorporate information from applications and City Council agendas.” The most important thing you can do when you receive what appears to be a new bill or invoice is to verify it directly with Vernal City. Do not respond or use the contact number or link in the email or letter. Signs of fraud can include suspicious language, unrecognized senders or links, urgency and threats, and payment demands. Keep an eye out for these tactics as scammers are just about everywhere.
