A local nurse was recently announced as a recipient of The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses. Maddison Florence with Ashley Regional Medical Center was selected by the not-for-profit DAISY Foundation based in California which was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at the age of 33 from complications of ITP, a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. “When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night,” shares DAISY Foundation CEO Bonnie Barnes. “Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Ashley Regional Medical Center are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.” Part of the nomination for Maddison Florence reads, “Maddie was supportive, comforting, and kept me informed as to what was going on with my care. Maddie was also very kind and considerate of my family who was in the scariest moments of their lives.” The DAISY Award Nomination Form for Ashley Regional Medical Center can be found at ashleyregional.com/daisy-award.
