Unfortunately, Dinosaur National Monument has not been exempt from recent local thievery. Monument staff reported this week that a giant life size painting of a Colorado Pikeminnow fish that was attached to a bench at the Split Mountain Boat Ramp has now gone missing. The unique fish artwork was installed to highlight the endangered fish of the Colorado River System. While it may seem unbelievable, pikeminnow can grow up to 6 feet long, making the artwork a life size rendition of the fish. Changes in habitat that began with the introduction of predatory non-native fish have resulted in the pikeminnow being an endangered fish. Anyone with information on the removal or whereabouts of the artwork are asked to contact Dinosaur National Monument staff.
