Officers who believed a stolen Dodge Durango that was spotted driving erratically on Highway 40 in Moffat County had one to two occupants were in for a surprise on January 7th. Officers pursued the stolen Durango and were joined by state patrol that even called in an aircraft to assist in tracking the fleeing driver. The pursuit ended when the Durango drove off the north side of Highway 40, stopping in a drainage ditch. “While coming to a stop, six individuals exited the Durango while it was still in motion and fled north into a field, running towards the Yampa River…Two individuals stayed in the Durango, and were immediately detained by Moffat County Deputies.” The driver was a 17-year-old male who was booked on a $100,000 cash only bond in the Moffat County Jail on charges, including Felony Vehicular Eluding, Misdemeanor Child Abuse, and Driving Without a Valid Driver’s License. The occupants included an 18-year-old female booked on a warrant for Felony Theft and a 19-year-old female booked on warrants for Assault and Robbery with a Weapon. Both were listed as transients. The remaining passengers included an 18-year-old male, 17-year-old female, 13-year-old male, 17-year-old male, and 15-year-old male listed as a runaway.
