The valleys may not have snow but that’s not the case for the mountains and Ashley National Forest is reminding visitors to know your route and be cautious on snow covered roads when visiting the forest. “Be prepared with warm winter clothing, food and supplies,” shares the announcement. “There recently have been several instances of vehicles stuck in deep snow or sliding off the road.” Also, travelers need to remember that many areas within the forest have limited cell phone coverage. Gates that are closed within the Vernal Ranger District are Red Cloud Loop at the snowmobile parking area, Grizzly Ridge ski tow hill area road, Colton cutoff road, Taylor Mountain Road, and Dry Fork Road just past the flume trail trailhead. Gates that are closed in the Flaming Gorge Ranger District include Birch Creek to Sheep Creek Park, sections of Palisades, Dowd Mountain, Death Valley, Swett Ranch Loop, and Pipe Creek. Other roads, including routes accessing Flaming Gorge Reservoir, remain open.
