A traffic stop in the region provided an opportunity to remind the public that alcohol consumption and firearms never mix. Colorado’s Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reported that on Sunday, December 28th, a deputy observed a pickup truck leaving the Fravert reservoir area and initiated a lawful traffic stop. The stop ultimately resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old and 19-year-old Adolfo Benitez-Sandoval, both of whom were intoxicated and in possession of multiple firearms. The investigation revealed several weapons in the vehicle, including rifles and handguns, along with magazines and ammunition. As a result, Benitez-Sandoval was arrested and charges were filed related to prohibited use of weapons, possession of a handgun by a juvenile, and illegal possession or consumption of alcohol by an underage person. The 16-year-old involved in the incident was transported to Grand Mesa Youth Services Center. The Sheriff reported that they have been seeing an increase in incidents involving youth consuming alcohol and engaging in dangerous behavior.
