Utah House District 67 representative Christine Watkins has announced that she will not seek reelection and will be running for local office instead. Representative Watkins district includes Duchesne, Carbon, and Emery counties where she will finish out the remainder of her term in 2026. Meanwhile, she announced her intention to run for a seat on the Carbon County Commission. Then a registered Democrat, Watkins was first elected to the Utah Legislature in 2008 but was unseated in 2012. She was elected again in 2016, this time as a registered Republican and has remained in office since. The filing window for potential candidates interested in the House District 67 seat is January 2nd to January 8th.
