Don’t be alarmed if you hear prolonged sirens on Saturday morning in Vernal along Highway 40. Local officers are just taking the time to spread some Christmas cheer to a group of local children. The annual Shop With A Cop starts with breakfast at the Elk’s Lodge and then the group caravans with full lights and sirens from the Elks Lodge to Walmart where Santa will be making an exciting and dramatic appearance by helicopter. After the big red guy lands in style, the group heads into Walmart where the kids get to go shopping with the officers. Shop With A Cop in Uintah County is hosting approximately 50 kids this year thanks to the private donations from businesses and community members. The focus is on creating a good memory for children who need a positive experience with law enforcement.
